If you cannot hear anything when you plug the earpiece into the hand mic, you can use the earpiece with a 3.5mm jack on a phone to test it. If you can hear sound, then the radio jack's internal wiring may not be compatible with the 3.5mm standard, or the microphone jack may be faulty.
